December arrives in a flash, greeting us with too much to do and not enough time to cozy up with the one’s we love. We all long for a relaxed, gregarious December, but instead find a chaotic month filled with places to be, people to visit and hours of preparation to keep us company when we would rather be catching our breath. This December will be our first stateside, and I am rejoicing in the 30 hours I gain by not travelling this holiday season, however just as quickly as I gain them, I have already spent them. This December I will be…..
Celebrating Hi Neighbour Month by hosting a progressive dinner. The dinner begins at our home for canapés and Champers, and then we move down the road for our next 3 courses. The beauty with the progressive dinner is that everyone gets to know each other as the dinner progresses.
Enjoying mulled wine. I can never resist the scent, the taste, the warmth…Have a glass and think of me. Add the following ingredients to a large pot or slow-cooker, simmer on low heat for 30 minutes then serve.
2 bottles dry red wine, 4 ounces brandy and a pint of orange juice;
10 whole cloves, 3 cinnamon sticks and 1 large pinch of ground nutmeg;
2 large orange, 1 pear, 1 apple cut into quarters
Filling their boots. Our holiday season begins on December 6th. We place our boots outside with a note to St. Nicholas filled with our memories of the year and what goodies we are hoping for. When we wake the next morning and find the note gone and replaced with sweets then we know he will be back on Christmas Eve, however if the note is there, and the boot is filled with coal…. then we had better shape up quick if we want him to consider coming back on Christmas Eve.
Buying my first Poinsettia to celebrate Poinsettia Day on December 12th . For what ever the reason, I have nottaken to these holiday plants in the past, but this year, I see them in a different light and am looking forward to having them fill our front porch.
Getting crafty in the kitchen. My crafty side comes out during the holiday season and my kitchen becomes a workshop for a number of homemade goodies, come back next week and discover the Homemade Christmas workshop for yourself……
Going traditional. This will be our first year since 2000 where we have opted for the traditional stationary holiday card rather than the popular picture card. Call me old fashioned, but I found a box of cards that dazzled me, now all I have to do is sit down and write them before the postal deadline.
